Young Vulgarians perform erudite, high-energy gothic synth pop full of literary overtones and sass. The band originated in the Philadelphia area in the early 2000s, shaping new urban legends with its surreal and bombastic live shows until the primary songwriter's disappearance into Africa. Young Vulgarians unexpectedly re-emerged years later as a solo project on an island in Alaska.

Macaronic Anathema is the first of three entries in the project's Autumn Trilogy. Featuring a kaleidoscopic variety of synthesizers and live drum/bass dance beats, Young Vulgarians weaves a romantic/intellectual expanse which is both nostalgic and futurist. For fans of Sisters of Mercy, the symbolist movement in art, Lycia, silent film, Xmal Deutschland, early Dead Can Dance, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, Bowie, and "London" Suede.
